The mission of the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation
(MAOF) is to provide for the socio-economic betterment of the
greater Latino community of California, while preserving the pride,
values and heritage of the Mexican American culture. MEXICAN
AMERICAN OPPORTUNITY FOUNDATION
Program: Child Care/Pre-School Program Status: Non-exempt (40 hours
per week) Supervised by: Site Supervisor, Program Director, and
Staff Development Supervisors General Purpose: To provide direct
care, guidance and instruction to the children of the MAOF Child
Care and Development Centers. To instruct children in activities
designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth that
stimulates learning, according to the developmental stages of the
children. Responsibilities and Authority: Under the direction of
the Site Supervisor, assumes responsibilities for instructing and
supervising groups of children, preparing and following lesson
plans, assessing and documenting children's development, and
supervising teachers assistant and volunteer staff assigned. ---
Provide children with a learning environment and experiences which
will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and
emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of
--- Integrate the educational aspects of the program in the daily
schedule of activities.
--- Following the curriculum prepares lesson plans and materials
according to the general program, outline or theme, and in
accordance with contractual guidelines and prescribed procedures.
Lessons should include but not limited to activity areas of
dramatic play, science, math, art, music, language, nutrition, fine
and gross motor.
--- Implements safety rules and supervise children's activities in
order to insure their safety.
--- Organize and implement a positive and comfortable routine
within the room by establishing realistic limits for the children,
by effectively using time, providing for active and quiet
activities, and by planning orderly transitions from on activity to
--- Plans and conducts classroom activities that encourage good
health habits appropriate to the child. Involve parents in the
educational activities of the program.
--- Selects and uses materials and equipment that stimulates the
--- Prepares and maintains daily attendance records and prepares
other reports and documentation as required.
Conducts initial, interim, and final assessments of children's
development, and documents Individual Education Plans for each
Conducts parent conferences on a scheduled basis for the purpose of
apprising the parents of the needs and progress of the child.

children and observes children for such signs on a daily basis.
Documents any signs of ill health and immediately reports same to

Supervises and guides classroom staff in conducting family style
meals and snacks with children. Sits at table, encouraging and, as
necessary, assisting children in serving themselves. Initiates and
participates in conversations, discusses colors, textures,
nutrition of food, and how and where it grows, who grows it, other
food nutrition and community information.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, conferences, workshops,
in-service training, and parents meetings.
Helps each child to develop a sense of awareness, self esteem and
be able to express his/her feelings. To develop pride as an

--- Minimum of 1 year of classroom experience working in a
pre-school/child care setting.
--- Ability to communicate, both oral and written

understand and be understood by others.

--- Sincere commitment to providing services to children and the

Department. Fingerprints clearance must be active and on file with

motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability
