Mechanical Engineer - Ultrasonics
Kulicke and Soffa is known for our precision automation products used in the manufacture of semiconductor devices. We are a growing international company with our Wedge Bonding development business focused in the Santa Ana, CA office. Currently, we are seeking a Mechanical Engineer and in this role, you will become knowledgeable in developing ultrasonic transducers and other interconnect process equipment for wire, ribbon, foil, pin, and tab bonding equipment. Your work will concentrate on designing, analysis and modelling, assembling, and testing, using sound engineering judgment of ultrasonic systems with the ultimate goal to deliver a reliable, consistent, and repeatable Interconnect process to our customer. Additionally:

  • Under minimal supervision, use knowledge of engineering technology and its application to design, develop, and sustain ultrasonic related subsystems
  • Design, conduct, analyze and document experiments to extend knowledge of the ultrasonic and interconnect subsystems
  • Build prototypes, feasibility models, and perform limit and life testing of ultrasonic transducers
  • Write specifications and procedures using MS Office or similar products
  • Transfer product designs from development to the factory
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams and operations/marketing groups
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical engineering or related area e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or Acoustics & Vibrations; preferred
    • 3+ years of related experience
    • Experience in Ultrasonics Transducer design, analysis, modelling, prototyping, testing or related experience; preferred
    • Hands on skills in assembling small parts, setting up experiments in the lab; strong preferred
    • Up to 15% international travel; required
    • 3D modeling in programs such as NX, Pro/Engineer; preferred
    • Finite Element Analysis [FEA] and simulations in programs such as Comsol, Nastran, Ansys; preferred
    • Simulation or data analysis using Python, LabView, MatLab, preferred
    • Design of Experiments and data analysis using Anova, Taguchi, and Minitab; preferred
    • Knowledge of lathes, mills and power tools to modify or create experimental components; preferred
    • Knowledge of Laser Vibrometers, Oscilloscopes, and other data collection tools; preferred
    • Knowledge of materials, ultrasonic or acoustic systems; strongly preferred
