PLANNING PRACTICE We create, integrate, visualize and communicate planning concepts as they move from the initial vision through implementation. DESCRIPTION Our Natural Resources Department Manager will help grow our Natural Resources Practice in the southern California Region. This Practice includes Regulatory Permitting, Biological Studies, and Ecosystem Restoration Services for public and private clients throughout southern California. The Natural Resources Manager will be charged with development and implementation of a business strategy, overseeing the Natural Resources group, while also helping to win work and expand the Practice. -This role includes the development and implementation of a business strategy and management of key strategic projects and on-call contracts to expand the practice and opportunities for staff. - RESPONSIBILITIES ---Lead the growth of the practice and ensure that technical capabilities and processes align and support quality standards for the delivery of services. ---Maintain existing client relationships, generate additional opportunities with existing clients, and develop new clients. ---Support strategic pursuits as they may occur within the regional portfolio. ---Coordinate with Michael Baker International's West Region planning team. ---Lead the development of capabilities to enable Natural Resources Practice growth in southern California and identify the additional capabilities to support new markets and new clients including identifying strategic hires. ---Actively partner with and support the Planning Regional Practice Lead, Practice Executive, and other Department Managers in Santa Ana, Long Beach, Los Angeles, and Thousand Oaks, as well as other offices across the region. ---Lead strategic planning for the practice in the southern California area focused on opportunities with the State, local agencies, and private markets. - ---Lead business development for the Natural Resources Practice (pursuits, client engagement, revenue growth). ---Oversight and management of Natural Resources' project portfolio, client engagement, and growth strategies. ---Coach, develop, and mentor staff. ---Coordinate staff participation in key state and regional conferences. ---Leverage technical expertise to drive thought leadership by presenting at conferences, publishing research and whitepapers, and/or participating in and serving as a leader in professional associations. ---Lead and grow Natural Resources' internal work share opportunities. ---Monitor project performance and financial metrics. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS ---10+ years related experience ---Four-year degree in Environmental Science, Planning or related field, Master's degree preferred QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES ---To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Natural Resources Department Manager must be capable of reviewing project technical work and providing direction and guidance to project personnel to resolve problems and ensure quality review procedures are being implemented. ---Demonstrated Natural Resources compliance expert, covering various subtopics such as state and federal regulatory permitting, baseline studies, focused surveys, habitat mitigation plans, etc. ---Candidates must demonstrate an ability to perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and applicable laws. ---Familiarity with Natural Resources, Planning, federal, state, and applicable local laws and regulations. ---Demonstrated client engagement experience. ---Effective communication skills, strategic thinker with initiative and leadership in the advancement of multi-disciplined services.
