This critical role ensures the effective development and deployment of Global Operations (GO) strategic priorities to support Illumina's company strategy, overseeing the PMO community of practice. The role also involves continuously improving the effectiveness and cohesiveness of the operations organization within PMO/business operations scope, ensuring alignment across functions and delivery against strategic and operational objectives. The incumbent will support the lifecycle of a large portfolio, leading project reviews, optimizing standards, identifying areas for improvement, reporting analyses, and leading program managers. The scope of the GO organization includes product transfer, sourcing, purchasing, S&OP, manufacturing, logistics, on-market product support, real estate and facilities, physical security, and environmental health and safety. The organization has a global footprint with manufacturing, distribution, and laboratory operations across all geographies. The Global Operations team comprises over 3,000 employees worldwide. The incumbent may drive critical strategic projects in a fast-moving, dynamic, complex environment. Success requires strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and the ability to execute effectively under ambiguity. A background in life sciences (e.g., undergraduate studies or work experience) is required, along with broad experience across the product lifecycle and operations. A BS in Biology, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Operations, or equivalent is required; clinical experience, especially in diagnostics, is highly desirable.Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Execute operational objectives and partner with senior leadership on strategic planning and deployment.
  • Use metrics and data visualization to report portfolio performance and support decision-making.
  • Develop and implement project management methodologies and best practices.
  • Contribute to establishing common practices, tools, and templates for portfolio and project management, ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Develop, modify, and execute company policies affecting immediate operations with enterprise-wide impact.
  • Handle highly complex assignments requiring conceptual problem-solving where all factors may not be clearly defined.
  • Interact frequently with senior management and executives on cross-functional matters.
  • Apply advanced knowledge to influence stakeholders and departmental outcomes.
  • Negotiate and persuade in sensitive, complex situations while maintaining relationships.
  • Direct activities of multiple disciplines or departments.
  • Advise teams on complex matters, influencing budgets, methods, and staffing.
  • Oversee experienced professionals and lead across different levels.Experience/Education:
    • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 15 years of related experience, including 7+ years of management experience.
    • Experience in leadership roles at top-tier organizations.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Experience managing projects and metrics.All listed requirements are essential, but reasonable accommodations may be made for additional tasks and responsibilities as needed.The estimated base salary range for this role in the US is $152,600 - $228,800. Compensation depends on qualifications, location, internal equity, and market data. Employees are eligible for variable cash programs and possibly equity.
