    • Job Details
    • The Registered Nurse, as a professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care.
    • According to the established standards of nursing practice and standards of care, he/she demonstrates an ability to make clinical nursing judgements in an efficient and effective manner.
    • The Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care and consistently performs according to the standards of the profession.
      • Job Requirements
      • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span.
      • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's needs in relation to age and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
      • Performs an accurate patient assessment on assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions and established policies and procedures for the facility.
      • Demonstrates an ability to identify changes in patient condition and appropriately notifies the physician.
      • Demonstrates knowledge of medical diagnosis and how the disease entity is manifested in the patient including interpretations of clinical and laboratory data and/or symptomatology that should be monitored in the patient.
      • Demonstrates the ability to develop a patient care plan unique to each assigned specific patient, including planning of care with patient and family.
      • Consistently monitors and evaluates patient outcomes and modifies the care plan and participates in the coordination of continuum of care.
      • Provides direct patient care and demonstrates ability to carry out physicians orders.
      • Assists physicians in administering treatments, performing medical examinations, diagnostics tests and surgical operations as appropriate to the setting.
      • Administers prescribed treatments and medications, controls narcotics, and demonstrates ability to start, prepare, implement, monitor and discontinue I.V. fluids as ordered.
      • Accurately evaluates patient responses to care and therapies including improvements or worsening of patient laboratory results, physical assessment, or changes in mentation.
      • Participates in unit specific quality assurance reviews and performance improvement projects.
      • Documents evidence of nursing care in patient medical records legibly, objectively, accurately and timely.
      • Ensures physician orders have been acknowledged by the end of the shift and works with Charge Nurse to resolve complex order acknowledgment issues.
      • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and their families in accordance with hospital standards.
      • Demonstrates support for building teams for effective communication to ensure patient safety as well as supports a Just Culture and consistently 'Doing the Right Thing'.
      • Must have relevant state licensure for California.

        • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) specialty role
