  • The Registered Nurse delivers professional nursing care to the patient whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex.
  • Establishes a helping relationship using a holistic approach.
  • The RN ensures quality and appropriateness of care for all age groups in the unit-specific patient population including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Coordinates care planning with other disciplines.

    • Unit-specific patient population includes neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
    • Assists physicians in surgical operations as appropriate to the operating room setting.
    • Participates in unit-specific quality assurance reviews and performance improvement projects.
    • Supports building teams for effective communication to ensure patient safety and a Just Culture.

      • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret appropriate information to identify patient needs in relation to age.
      • Performs accurate patient assessments in accordance with physician instructions and facility policies.
      • Demonstrates ability to identify changes in patient condition and notify physician appropriately.
      • Demonstrates knowledge of medical diagnosis and disease manifestations including interpretation of clinical and laboratory data.
      • Develops unique patient care plans including patient and family involvement.
      • Monitors and evaluates patient outcomes and modifies care plans accordingly.
      • Provides direct patient care and carries out physician orders.
      • Assists physicians in treatments, medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical operations as appropriate.
      • Administers prescribed treatments and medications, controls narcotics, and manages IV fluids.
      • Evaluates patient responses to care and therapies including lab results and physical assessments.
      • Participates in unit-specific quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
      • Documents nursing care accurately and timely in patient medical records.
      • Ensures physician orders are acknowledged by end of shift and resolves complex order issues with Charge Nurse.
      • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
      • Supports effective communication and a Just Culture focused on patient safety.
