SUMMARY: As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of
LGBT medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead
healthier, happier lives, by keeping their minds and body well. All
services are free or low cost. We’re also one of the few Federally
Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who
specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research
team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our
community. JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of their
collaborating physician, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
(NP)will provide trauma-informed and culturally competent
psychiatric assessment and management to patients at the Los
Angeles LGBT Center. The NP’s panel of patients will reflect the
diversity of LGBTQ community and include individuals of all genders
and expressions and with varying levels of medical and psychosocial
complexity, including those living with HIV. The NP will also be
expected to provide episodic care for non-panel patients as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • In accordance with the Los Angeles LGBT
Center’s defined standardized protocols, the psychiatric nurse
practitioner will conduct clinical encounters with new and
returning patients including: obtaining a comprehensive
psychosocial and medical history, reviewing past and current
psychotropic medications, providing differential diagnosis, and
developing a treatment plan. • Follows-up with patients as needed
to ensure compliance with protocol/treatment guidelines. •
Participate in formal and informal case consultation with the
referring provider and care team, mental health therapist and ICP
team. • Demonstrates chart maintenance by keeping patient problem
lists up-to-date and reconciling medications. • Follows practice
policies and procedures regarding EHR documentation, including
completing and “signing-off” on clinical notes, lab results and
refill requests within a timely manner. • Responds to messages from
patients and care team members in a timely manner. • Provides
evidence-based care that is in accordance with national standards
and internal practice guidelines. • Seeks consultation from staff
physicians as needed, especially when a patient’s problems are
especially complex or if the patient’s condition is not responding
as expected. • Participates in peer review exercises and completes
mandatory clinical trainings • Delivers appropriate patient health
education • Maintains sufficient Continuing Education Units (CEU)
as required by the California Board of Nursing for license renewals
and as may be required to maintain any certifications necessary to
demonstrate proficiency in a specialty area relevant to NPs
clinical practice. • Maintains the strict confidentiality of
patient records at all times. • Provides cross- coverage for the
other medical providers in cases of vacations, conferences, and
illness, and overflow. This includes review of other providers’ lab
results, portal messages and medication refill requests. • Attends
staff and other meetings as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND
EXPERIENCE: • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ
community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to
LGBTQ people. • A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to
make the world a better place for LGBTQ people. • CA RN license/MSN
with current CA Furnishing Number. • ANCC/ California Nurse
Practitioner Certification. • DEA registration. • Current
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card. • Minimum 5 years’
experience with outpatient mental health care or HIV specialty
mental health care with dual-diagnosis. • Bilingual skills, a plus
(English/Spanish fluency preferred). • Ability to develop and
maintain patient records. • Basic computer skills and knowledge
including word processing, database operations, and spreadsheets. •
Strong writing skills. • Ability to effectively educate patients
and their families. • Superior interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. •

identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds,
