Job DescriptionBehavior Support Companion - Orange County, CAAre you a compassionate, people oriented person who wants a part-time human services job that gives you flexible hours to fit around your busy schedule? Being a Behavior Support Companion is more than just a job, as you will develop a personal relationship with the individuals and families you work with.Our Behavior Support Companions provide highly trained non-medical direct services/compassionate home companions to children with developmental disabilities and other special needs.As a Behavior Support Companion you will provide primary caregivers the opportunity to enjoy breaks from their daily care giving responsibilities. In addition, you will assist clients, their parents/guardians and their siblings to enjoy a less stressful home environment. You will work in people's homes and in varied community settings serving families in San Fernando Valley. This is a part-time position (up to 15-20 hours per week) with flexible hours, with the potential of growing into a full-time position.Responsibilities:The Behavior Support Companion will serve as the primary support staff and will possess the necessary skills to deal effectively with the day-to-day challenges of providing respite services to clients, including the demonstrated ability to increase specified client skills.Maintain positive relationship with the family or families cared forEngage with the client though activities they enjoyProvide personal care and support to assist with daily living care needsConduct and lead socialization activitiesThey are also responsible for record keeping for each of the service recipients. Hours of work will be based on client needs. May work on a rotating schedule.Qualifications:High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalentBasic computer skillsFamiliar with developmental disabilitiesAvailability to work evenings and weekendsPre-Employment Requirements:Proof of valid driver's license, copy of auto insurance liability coverage, and clear DMV reportOperational vehicleProof of current CPR and First Aid training certificationsClearance with the Department of Justice by completing a fingerprint background checkSuccessfully passing pre-employment drug testPhysical Activity Requirements:Ability to physically lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds (e.g., groceries, housewares, or move furniture).Ability to physically assist, guide, and facilitate movement of clients that may need physical assistance (e.g., wheelchair transfer, walking, etc.)Ability to actively participate in frequent recreational activitiesTraining:The Behavior Support Companion will be expected to participate in approximately 40 hours of required training and would complete it during the first three months of employment. Training requirements include: competency based training, on the job field training and any other training provided by the professional staff of IABA and/or professionals outside the agency.Days and hours vary dependent upon candidate qualifications and client requirements.$15.00 hr.Days, Afternoons, Evenings, WeekendsFull and Part-time Available
