Description The City of Santa Ana is looking for individuals who are results-oriented, possess great attitudes, demonstrate creativity and innovation, work efficiently, show a record of success and have a PASSION for public service. Having the best employees provides the best service to the community. This is a part-time position. The incumbent will work up to19 hours per week. Work schedule is to be determined.The recruitment is open until filled and can close at any time and without notice. Primary bilingual pay is an additional $1.01 an hour, if applicable. Currently, there are fourteen (14) vacancies for ProgramCoordinatorwithin the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department; one (1) in the Youth Sports division, eleven (11) in the Recreation division, and two (2) in the Senior Mobility division. These numbers are subject to change. Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To Under general supervision, supervises program participants in recreation activities at recreation centers, and/or parks; assists in planning, organizing, promoting and conducting educational and recreational activities including; arts, sports, games, excursions, competitive activities, contests, summer camps, and special events; compile program/activity descriptions; maintain inventory of supplies and materials; collect and submit participant rosters, attendance sheets, registration forms, monthly statistical reports and other program data; assists with supervision of staff and volunteers; assists with development and implementation of program rules; monitor and evaluate daily activities and make recommendations for improvement; provide general center support; participate cooperatively in work team activities; answer telephone and provide customer assistance over the telephone or in person; may make presentations to city agencies, neighborhood associations and community groups; perform other related duties as assigned. For the Senior Mobility Program: Under general supervision, operates City owned vehicles over designated routes according to established time schedules; transports seniors on designated routes and special events; operates the vehicles in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with state training guides, rules and regulations; loads and unloads seniors, and their belongings, such as wheelchairs and walkers, at designated stops and assures safety of seniors, provides special care and assistance appropriate for disabled seniors; performs daily detailed inspection of the vehicle including brakes, pressure gauge, air pressure and condition of tires, emergency reflectors, lights, required documents and other items according to requirements established by the California Highway Patrol; reports any mechanical defects; maintains the vehicles in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition; maintains accurate records as required and prepares reports of mileage, loads and times; inspects fire extinguishers, first-aid kits and other emergency equipment to determine that they are in proper working order; administers first aid and operates fire-fighting equipment as necessary; assists with programming at senior centers or other recreation facilities; assists in training new drivers as assigned; participates in City in-services, workshops and/or seminars as directed. CHARACTERISTICS OF SUCCESSFUL PERFORMERS: The successful Program Coordinator is a self-starter, with strong decision-making skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. Should demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize, reflect skills needed to be a team player, and demonstrate good time management techniques. The Program Coordinator should be detail-oriented, organized and able to work independently. Must be able to effectively carry out projects and responsibilities to completion. Good computer skills are desirable, and positive, enthusiastic, outgoing personality. Demonstrate ability to supervise children and volunteers of various age groups. Minimum Qualifications Education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience working in a recreation program, or any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the desirable knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession and retention of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required. For the Senior Mobility Program:Must be at least 18 years of age; experience operating a bus and other City vehicles; California Class B driver's license with passenger endorsement; knowledge of safe driving practices and provisions of the CA Motor Vehicle Code and of appropriate safety precautions and procedures; Basic English usage, writing, math and record keeping; previous experience working with adults in recreation or community activities is highly desirable. Applicant must possess and retain a valid State of California issued CLASS B DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH PASSENGER ENDORSEMENT as a condition of employment. Must have a current Dept of Motor Vehicle Driving Record Report that represents a history of safe and competent driving. YOU MUST ATTACH A COPY OF THIS REPORT TO YOUR APPLICATION. DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Arts & Craft projects, outdoor activities, such as: excursions, event planning, outdoor recreation (rules and regulations as it pertains to basketball, baseball, football and other sports), gardening; chess rules and regulations; basic English usage, writing, math and record keeping; previous experience working with adults in recreation or community activities is highly desirable; basic use of computers, the internet, and Microsoft Word; and Civic/Rec software. For the Senior Mobility Program: knowledge of the geography of the City of Santa Ana including street conditions and roads on designated routes. Ability to: work in a team environment or with minimal supervision, work outside in all weather conditions, understand and communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; operate current office software and educational software applications, work with groups of all ages; handle a variety of emergency situations. For the Senior Mobility and Recreation Programs: lift up to 50 pounds (wheelchairs, walkers, etc). Bilingual fluency in English and one of the following languages is highly desirable: Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Hmong, Korean,Chinese (various dialects),or Samoan. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings. Must have reliable transportation.
