Job Summary

The Quality Inspector III is responsible performing a variety of quality control tests, first articles, and inspections for incoming materials to ensure compliance with quality and reliability standards. This role will have the ability to approve or reject materials with respect to quality standards and record performance. Due to the experience and knowledge of the Quality Inspector III, this position will also be able to work in the Incoming Inspection, Brasstech and Newport Assembly departments, and the Brasstech Machine Shop.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Analyze and measure incoming goods and components against drawings, aesthetic standards and samples.
  • Perform first article report on raw materials coming from outside suppliers
  • Work very close with Engineering on resolving first article issues that do not conform to the drawing
  • Maintain the first article tracking database and provide updates to the Purchasing group
  • Analyze and measure in process components and assemblies
  • Write up of the measurement, first article, and test results for presentation to Management, Purchasing, Engineering and the supplier
  • Analyze goods returned and compile reports with recommended quality improvement processes for use by management
  • Responsible for compiling Defective Material Reports (DMR's and Corrective Action Reports (CAR's)
  • Managed the first article plating process with Purchasing, Suppliers and Wilshire
  • Maintain and update records in organization ERP, in accordance with established procedures
  • Performs housekeeping activities in the production area
  • Adheres to and promotes all company safety rules and requirements
  • Performs other duties as required

    MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Educations and/or Experience
    • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
    • 5 years' experience as Quality Inspector

      SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
      • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand tolerancing
      • Experience using Vernier calipers, micrometers, ring gauges, plug gauges, depth gauges and thread templates; as well as simple calibration to gauge blocks
      • Knowledge of statistics with ability to calculate simple averages, standard deviations
      • Ability to understand principles of sampling inspection and AQL
      • Ability to read and interpret Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
      • Strong organizational skills
      • Ability to effectively communicate with different levels within the organization
      • Ability to work individually and within a team

          • Proficient math skills
            Computer Skills
            • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
              Other Skills
              • Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends and holiday hours.
              • Ability to legally work without sponsorship for employment visa status.
              • Ability to pass a near distance vision and color test upon hire and every year thereafter.
                • Near Distance Vision Requirements: Natural or corrected near distance acuity in at least one eye capable of reading the Jaeger #1 Test Chart or equivalent at a distance of 12 inches or greater.
                • Color Vision Requirements: Ability to differentiate among colors used in the visual inspection color palette and pass the Ishihara plates test without any signs of Monochromacy, Dichromacy, or Anomalous Trichromacy.

                  PHYSICAL DEMANDS

                  While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses his/her hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. The employee uses computer or telephone equipment. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision and distance vision. Must be capable of lifting up to 30 pounds. Have ability to complete frequent lifting, standing and walking up to 8 hours. May frequently use ladders, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.

                  WORK ENVIRONMENT

                  While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a warehouse environment, and have frequent standing and walking. The ambient conditions are moderate, and the noise level in the work environment is moderate. The employee will be working near or around machinery.
