Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.Michael Baker is focused on the engineering, science and environmental aspects of surface water. We possess the highest level of expertise in the research and implementation areas of surface water, as well as in the practical application of solutions to management challenges. Our breadth of services and extensive understanding of the surface water world from the public, private and regulatory perspectives provides clients with timely, cost-effective and -value-added solutions.DESCRIPTIONMichael Baker International is seeking a Civil Associate, Water Quality to join our Santa Ana, CA office.You will work with a highly interactive team on fast-paced, think on your feet type of projects that help our clients succeed through compliance with complex regulations. As a part of our team, the Water Quality Associate will assist teams with tasks appropriate for a junior engineer or scientist, including stormwater program development and implementation; Best Management Practice site selection, investigation, and performance research; data collection, review, and analysis; field inspections and reporting; and other civil engineering planning and design activities. -In this role you will be expected to be an ongoing learner and explore new ways to more effectively complete tasks. You would assist both external and internal clients on a variety of project types.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The majority of your day would be spent working with great people in a dynamic team environment performing various tasks - review of regulatory requirements and water quality standards associated with surface water and Clean Water Act/NPDES compliance, developing compliance programs, performing field inspections, performing data analysis, and preparing plans, specifications and estimates.
  • You will work with multiple Project Engineers, Environmental Scientists, and Project Managers who will guide you in the development of deliverables that include training sessions, regulatory reports, comment letters, and plan sets among others.
  • Developing and reviewing plans for compliance with municipal, transportation agency, industrial or construction permits.
  • Regulatory compliance assistance to both public and private clients, policy development and analysis, and report writing for Phase I and Phase II NPDES permits, the Construction General Permit, the Industrial General Permit, and the Statewide Trash Amendments.
  • Collaboration with the surface water team as well as members of other departments: water resources, transportation, structures, land development, GIS, planning, permitting, survey, and construction management.
  • Mentorship of interns.

    • A four- year Bachelor's (required), or Master's (preferred) degree in civil engineering, hydrology, environmental science, or related degree
    • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification strongly preferred
    • Professional Engineer (PE) in California preferred but not required.
    • Experience in storm water regulations through the Construction General Permit, Industrial General Permit, Caltrans NPDES Permit, and/or Municipal NPDES Permits is preferred.Computer skills in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.COMPENSATIONThe salary range for this position is $60,000 - $105,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.BENEFITS
